On Wednesday Miss Plancke helped host an online session called 'Girls in engineering' organised in conjunction with STEMFirst and STEM Ambassadors from STEM Learning, where twenty of our female students in Year 7 took part in discussions, practical activities and quizzes via Zoom video conferencing.

Helen Heggie, STEMFirst Director, introduced the session, which gave our female students a chance to find out about engineering, what skills are needed, learn from current employees who are Engineering Ambassadors and what steps to take for a career in this field.

The Engineering Ambassadors were all female and came from a variety of companies and work roles from Laboratory Analyst to Mechanical Design Engineer, representing companies such as BAE, James Fisher Nuclear and Sellafield Ltd.

There will be another three sessions throughout the year ensuring that every one of our seventy Year 7 girls have the opportunity to take part in these engaging sessions.
