The academy is delighted to announce that Adam Williams in Year 11 has completed the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. The award began in January 2016 where pupils attended training sessions to develop skills for two summer expeditions. Whilst the training was taking place, in their spare time the pupils completed other sections of the award: skills, physical and volunteering. Adam helped out with activities with Highfurlong School and developed his musical skills after school with lessons with the Performing Arts Department.

In the summer of 2016, he completed two expeditions in the Bowland forest region of Lancashire, which involved camping, cooking and completing navigated routes using a map and compass. The group leaders, Mr Tock and Mr Ryder were very impressed with his determination: Mr Tock commented that ' Adam has worked very hard on this award and was a valuable member of the group on expedition supporting others when they were feeling tired, he has also helped the school develop its links with Highfurlong students and should be very proud of his achievement'.
