The majority of our Year 7 students visited Winmarleigh Hall adventure centre recently for a full day of outdoor activities. Based near the Forest of Bowland, the centre offers a variety of pursuits such as orienteering, high ropes and buggy building.
Although cloudy, the rain stayed away and the students were split into mixed groups giving them the opportunity to get to know each other, rather than just those in their Form or teaching groups.
Many of the activities required good teamwork – working together to solve problems, helping each other over various obstacles and generally encouraging and cheering each other on. It was so good to see how the students encouraged their teammates when they stepped out of their comfort zone to try something new.
Although exhausted by the end of the day, the students were smiling as they got on the coach to travel back to Aspire, exhilarated by the fresh air and amazing time they had. Accompanying staff were particularly impressed with their willingness to have a go, their politeness around the centre and the way they worked together and supported each other throughout their adventure.
