Our learning experiences
Our school curriculum reflects the wide range of learning experiences we provide for our students.
We offer a full range of National Curriculum subjects, ensuring that each child follows a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which is underpinned by our mission statement, ‘Success, Nothing Less’. Our curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of students at the school. It promotes the values that reflect our modern British society and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. The curriculum is organised as a one week timetable of 25 golden hours. Each golden hour begins with a Go Task ensuring that no learning time is wasted. The learning objectives of each golden hour are packaged in a Golden Question that provides the premise of the learning during the lesson. The knowledge and skills aquired during each golden hour are the Golden Nuggets that the students take away with them.
Our curriculum also has a strong emphasis on the development of English, Mathematics, and Science skills with all students at Key stage 3 (Year 7 and 8) receiving 4 hours of English, Mathematics and Science per week. Students in Year 9, 10, and 11 receive between 4 and 6 hours a week of each subject. Geography, History, French, ICT, RE, Art, Technology, Performing Arts and PE are also studied by all students in Key Stage 3. These subjects are offered as options in Key Stage 4 along with Business, Sport, Travel and Tourism, Computer Science and Music. We also place a great emphasis on discrete one hour Personal, Social and Health Education lessons across all years.
We believe that the curriculum is also about creating opportunities within a wider curriculum as we feel it plays an important and crucial part in the development of members of our school community, where we celebrate success and achievements both in school and outside of school, through our regular Awards/Rewards assemblies.
