18th January 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you all had a wonderful break and are looking forward to 2024. This year as you are aware is a critical year for our year 11 students. They will be sitting their GCSE exams in May and June and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that they are prepared to do as well as they can. We have as an academy launched a series of initiatives with the students since our return to school in order to help them through this period and we would as always appreciate your support with these.

I have emailed out a PowerPoint to all of our year 11 pupils, detailing the strategies we are putting in place. Please take a moment to look over these with your child as there are some extremely effective tools that you can use to help them with their revision. Amongst these are breakfast, lunch and after school revision sessions where students can work in a quiet place. Mrs Craig, one of our assistant headteachers, has created an excellent website detailing lots of techniques and resources to help your child prepare for their exams and the link to this is on the PowerPoint. The prom is always an event that we look forward to, so that we can celebrate the hard work of our students. This year it will be held on Thursday 4th July at Staining Glasshouse. It is always a wonderful occasion and we hope that many of our students will be able to attend.

To attend the prom, students need to have met the following conditions. This is so that students who have worked hard and done the right thing are rewarded:

  • 95% Attendance to school from Monday 8th January
  • No suspensions from Monday 8th January
  • Only 1 C5 from Monday 8th January
  • Only 2 C4s from Monday 8th January
  • Do not miss any of the exams
  • No more than two lates to school. Three lates and they will not attend prom

We have also noticed that some students who arrive late, are arriving very late on in the morning. Usually, a student will attend a 30 minute detention at lunch if they are late to school. From Monday, if a student arrives to school after 9.30 without a valid reason, they will be issued with an hour detention after school that day. Any time before that will continue to be a 30 minute lunchtime detention.

The school is open now for Year 11 from 8.00am. If students arrive to school early they are welcome to attend the revision sessions that are on from then.

The most effective strategy for our students to do well this summer is to be in school on time, every day and doing the right thing. Your support will be invaluable to our students as they work towards securing the qualifications they deserve in the summer.
