On Friday the Geography department took twenty six year 10 and 11 pupils on a two day residential trip to Cumbria. The pupils were a credit to the school and showed fantastic resilience given the almost constant heavy rain they experienced.

The first day saw the group tackle a walk around the Coniston lower fells with some rather impressive waterfalls seen, and for some it was their first sheep experience and hiking up a height more than C floor. Good teamwork was seen especially when Leon lost the sole of his boot. All ankles survived and the only injury was when one un-named student managed to draw blood from Mr Tock after she slipped and reached for his hand for support...cue nice sharp nails piercing Mr Tock's hand!

The evening activity was setting overnight humane-mammal traps in the woods, where four woodmice were caught and then released Saturday morning.

Saturday was a useful river study for our GCSE students of the River Eer from source to mouth via a meander to Cartmels sticky toffee shop in the middle course.

Many thanks for Miss Plancke's medical knowledge and minibus driving skills and Miss Stevenson's fantastic drying room organisation for making the trip a great success. Thanks must also go to all the staff back at Aspire for helping with cover lessons. Residential trips are great memories for our students and it really helped the pupils shine and take part in new experiences.
