Almost fifty Year 9 students took part in their first STEM workshop this morning, presented by Dell Technologies.
Students acted as brand new 'social enterprise' companies, who are seeking funding from Dell Technologies for a new and exciting tech product. During the workshop, they were encouraged to develop their knowledge of social issues in their community and the way that technology can be used for the greater good. Examples of new technologies such as micro-electronic skin, jetpack paramedics, 3D printed food and flying cars were shown, all of them being already in use in various countries around the world.
The session raised students' aspirations and developed key transferable skills such as creativity and teamwork, which can be used in the world of work. They also had to present their company, product and design to the Dell Technologies staff virtually - a nerve-wracking moment for some!
Three of our teams had their ideas and designs put forward to the Dell creative and marketing team in London: Della ring (supporting people struggling with alcoholism), Medi-tech (supporting people with diabetes) and Holo-nurse (multi-lingual AI nurse, supporting nurses in hospital).
