On a slightly damp and muddy morning and afternoon the BASC North Team and various Aspire students and staff managed to get some conservation work completed.

The team successfully installed our first batch of duck nest tubes around the main pond, pictured above and below.

Duck nest tubes offer security and protection from the elements and many can be installed in a relatively small area. When used properly these tubes can boost fledging success to over 90 per cent. Ultimately, the duck nest tubes increase the brood size and the chances of the ducklings making it to adulthood.

In the new year the BASC North Team will return to help our students install kestrel and owl nest boxes allowing our students to survey their use and increase the chances of survival of these wonderful wild bird species in our area.
