What is work experience?
Work experience is an opportunity for students to visit a place of work and learn about a work-based environment. It does not necessarily have to be connected to what you want to become but can also help inform and give vital experience when making decisions on future career choices.
When is Year 10 Work Experience?
We are really pleased to offer the opportunity to our Year 10 students to take part in a work placement outside of school this year. The placement dates will be Monday 29th April to Friday 3rd May 2024. During this week, students have the opportunity to learn vital employability skills by working with an employer and experience the world of work in order to prepare them for their future pathways.
Next Steps
For students to take part in a work placement, here are the next steps:
- The launch assembly took place on 19th September, where students were given details about the programme.
- Self-placement forms will need to be completed and returned no later than Thursday 21st December 2023 – we encourage all students to try and find their own placement to ensure they are happy with their choice.
- Students will be able to start researching a placement and approaching employers via the platform if they are not able to find a self placement. More information on how to do this will follow.
- Support will be given during Personal Development lessons about how to contact employers and access the platform (form time).
- Once a placement has been agreed by an employer, student and parent, the Work Experience Placement Form needs to be returned to school. This must be signed by the employer and parent/carer.
