Our learning experiences

Our school curriculum reflects the wide range of learning experiences we provide for our students.

We offer a full range of National Curriculum subjects, ensuring that each child follows a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which is underpinned by our mission statement, ‘Success, Nothing Less’. Our curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of students at the school.  It promotes the values that reflect our modern British society and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. The curriculum is organised as a one week timetable of 25 one hour lessons.

Our curriculum also has a strong emphasis on the development of English, Mathematics, and Science skills with all students at Key stage 3 (Year 7 and 8) receiving 5 hours of English and Mathematics and 3 hours of Science a week. Students in Year 9, 10, and 11 receive between 4 and 6 hours a week of each subject. We also place a great emphasis on discrete one hour Personal, Social and Health Education lessons, 9 which include following an e-safety level one qualification in Year 8, currently in Year 7, 8, and 9. This is set to roll into Year 10 from September 2016.

We believe that the curriculum is also about creating opportunities within a wider curriculum as we feel it plays an important and crucial part in the development of members of our school community, where we celebrate success and achievements both in school and outside of school, through our regular Awards/Rewards assemblies and ‘latest news’ on the website.

The Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE), Citizenship and Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG) curriculum is also enriched through Aspirational Days. The usual curriculum timetable on these days are replaced with Aspirational Days and will follow PSHE, Citizenship and CEIAG programmes of study. These programmes of study at Key Stages 3 and 4 are mainly based on three core themes: Health and Wellbeing; Relationships; and Living in the Wider World.
